FotoEnglish Class
What was it like in our English class? Here are some examples. As every year, we had four tests, but we also had four lessons per week. In the first term, we took part in a reading challenge designed by Helbling for all third-grade classes in Austria. We read “Run, Liam, Run”, which was very cool, and the tasks were good - easy, but not too easy. After that, we started our film project about Madagascar. We also tried out different digital apps like eduactive. It's similar to Helbling E-Zone, but I think it's slightly worse. The best website we tested was E-Squirrel; it's great fun. We had to complete tasks on every unit in the books, and when we answered correctly, we received nuts. There is also a leaderboard where you can see how many nuts you have. I think that in future years, we should use Helbling and E-Squirrel. We had two lessons on Fridays this year, which was great because in the first lesson we had a “normal” lesson, but in the second lesson we usually did something on our tablets, like writing a text. We also had lots of other fun projects. But none of this would be possible without our teachers.

Bilingual Class
First of all, what does 'bilingual' mean? It means that some subjects are taught in another language. At our school, it's obviously English. This year, the bilingual class (3a) has music, physics, history and, for some, Catholic religion classes taught in English.
Another thing that the bilingual classes get is Latin as a new subject. In my opinion, it’s a very interesting and fun subject. Although Latin is a “dead language” and not spoken on a daily basis, it includes a lot of history.
We also have native speakers from the UK and the US who help us to speak English more fluently. The tests consist of English and German parts, but we can choose which language to answer in. Most of the questions are asked in both languages (English and German). I hope I have given you a brief overview of the bilingual class!

This year, we did a lot in English to improve our language skills. We practiced our speaking skills with presentations about famous people. After that, the third and fourth grades went to the theatre. Our English group also watched the movie “Madagascar” and did a project about it, which included working in groups on a short, self-made film. At the end of the school year, we read a book of our choice and made a “BookTube” video with our own opinion about the story. Overall, we enjoyed learning English in many different ways.
Anna Völkl, 3A

We had many exciting projects in this school year. We gave presentations about famous people from the “Who Is /Who Was” series. We also did a “Madagascar” film project and even made our own video, which was amazing. Now, we’re working on a “BookTok” video about a book we chose ourselves, which is really creative.

Crazy Inventions
In the second term of the school year, we did a project called “Crazy Inventions”, based on Unit 8, “Inventions and Inventors.” In this unit, we learned about inventions and their inventors. We also learned about young people who changed the world.
Then, we had to create a PowerPoint presentation called “Pitch on a Crazy Invention.” In groups, we came up with lots of funny and interesting ideas, such as the “Candy Duster,” which turns dust into candy, the “Boyfriend Generator,” which creates a boyfriend for you, and the “Shrinkflator,” which makes things a lot smaller. We also had the opportunity to make a short video in which we presented and explained our products. Everyone enjoyed the presentations, and we had a great time creating our inventions and hearing about the ideas of the other groups. This project allowed us to be creative and try out many new things.
We really hope that our teacher will do this project with other classes and that they will enjoy it as much as we did.

Madagascar Film Project
Around Christmas, we watched the movie “Madagascar” and its short Christmas edition. Every few scenes, our teacher stopped the cartoon, and we had to fill out worksheets. After finishing the film, we worked on portfolios on our own. One task was to invent, describe and draw our own new character for the movie. There was the gang of capybaras that worshiped oranges, a panda called “Lilo” that could carve weapons out of bamboo with its teeth, a black cat, eyes wide open, scaring the other animals, the jaguar Max, a budgie called Dixey, a parrot talking nonsense all day, really great ideas! In groups, we wrote a new scene in which the animals from Madagascar and these new animals appeared and then filmed it. This project was great fun. Hopefully, we will work on something similar next year!

Book Project
I am excited to inform you about another activity of class 3A this school year: our book project. Class 3B had done a similar project earlier this year, from which I believe we drew our inspiration, and they were kind enough to present it to the students of class 3A. The children in 3B displayed their “book boxes”. For all of the individuals who are not familiar with what that term implies, it refers to perhaps an old shoe box, or some other kind of small cardboard container, in which a scene is creatively depicted using delicately crafted characters from the story, to bring the scene to life. The class used these, as well as a short summary of the books they have read, to introduce to us books we may choose from for our own work. In our own book project, we were to either present a book of our own choice, use one of those that were recommended by class 3B, or to read “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, the latter being provided by the school library to all who showed interest. We could do a book tube, a book box, a stop motion video or a PowerPoint presentation.

Attached you can find a number of pictures of our various projects! They were a lot of fun!
